University affairs
Various issues concerning Concordia University are often reported on by news outlets. Here is the most recent coverage pertaining to the institution:
- News broke late Wednesday afternoon of the arrest in Iran of Professor Homa Hoodfar who, until recently, taught in Concordia's Department of Sociology & Anthropology. Hoodfar, who holds Iranian and Canadian passports and had been visiting her family in Iran while also conducting research, was blocked from leaving the country in March. Following prolonged and repeated interrogation, Hoodfar was taken into custody at Iran's Evin prison earlier this week. There are reports that Iran accuses Hoodfar of "co-operating with a foreign state against the Islamic Republic of Iran." It is unclear if she has been charged. Her family indicates the Canadian government had been seeking a quiet diplomatic remedy to the situation. There is extensive worldwide coverage in hundreds of news outlets, including: The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Gulf News Iran, CBC News, CTV News (video and text), CTV Montreal, National Post, The Globe and Mail, Macleans.ca, La Presse + and LaPresse.ca, (Marguerite Mendell, professor in the School of Community and Public Affairs, is quoted), Montreal Gazette, Radio-Canada, Le Devoir, Le Journal de Montréal, Le Journal de Québec, L'actualité, Global News, 98,5fm.ca, CJAD News, Canoe, Journal Métro, Huffington Post Québec, Yahoo!
