Expert commentators
Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:
- Michel Magnan, professor in the Department of Accountancy at the John Molson School of Business, is quoted in a La Presse + report, reprised from LaPresse.ca, on a new study on the financial impact of the Grand Prix du Canada. Magnan says the report offers new information that should allow for a thorough debate of the government involvement in financing the annual event.
- Pippin Barr, video game maker and visiting scholar-in-residence in the Department of Design and Computation Arts, guested on the podcast, 'Play dead', focusing on death and death themes in video games. The music used in the episode is from games developed by Barr, including Eveline, Hot Coffee and Zorba. The Barr segment begins at the one-minute mark.
- Matt Stiegemeyer, director of student recruitment and enrolment services at Concordia, tells Times Higher Education that the current political situation in the U.S. is favouring student recruitment at Concordia. He relates that he recently met two Muslims from Brazil he says were now looking to Canadian universities after having been put off the US by presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s pronouncements. The reporter spoke with Carr and Stiegmeyer during a visit to Concordia organized by the Canadian Embassy in Italy.
- CNW/Telbec reposts an earlier news release quoting Lieutenant-General (retired) Roméo Dallaire, a senior fellow at the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS) at Concordia. Dallaire warns that the Rwandan genocide is being repeated in Syria.
