Expert commentators

Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:

  • The Montreal Gazette talks to Peter Jaskiewicz, associate professor in the Department of Management and CIBC distinguished professor in entrepreneurship and family business. The piece looks at how small storefront businesses along St. Denis Street, particularly in the Plateau, are struggling from the effects of protracted construction projects, coupled with years of escalating property taxes and rent hikes.
  • Accountancy professor Michel Magnan is quoted in a piece in The Globe and Mail that looks at how large Canadian companies in the resource sector have raised the amount they pay their CEOs, despite a sharp downturn in business and thousands of job losses.
  • CBC.ca writes about a call increasingly being heard in the wake of last year's report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission for journalism schools to do a better job of equipping their students to cover indigenous peoples' stories. It quotes Brian Gabrial, associate professor in the Department of Journalism, who says the university plans to address that concern in the future and says that, in the meantime, journalism students could take classes in Concordia's First Peoples Studies program. The article is reprised by Yahoo! News.
  • Gabrial is quoted again in a separate piece in Artfcity about the concentration of media ownership. He offers his perspective on the different dynamics involved in public and private media ownership.
