Expert commentators

Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:

  • Pierre Gauthier, associate professor in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment, was interviewed in studio for CBC Montreal's 6 pm newscast, last Friday, about the project for a $5.5-Billion light rail service, announced by the Caisse de Dépôt.
  • University librarian Guylaine Beaudry and her colleague from Université Laval, Loubna Ghaouti, are interviewed for Découvrir magazine, published by the Association francophone pour le savoir (Acfas). Beaudry and Ghaouti discuss last fall's announcement of an agreement between the province and universities to give university libraries full and free access to the Quebec government geospatial data bank.
  • Huffington Post reprises an earlier opinion piece quoting Peter Stoett, professor in the Department of Political Science and director of the Loyola Sustainability Research Centre, about military and paramilitary operations, notably in Syria and Somalia, where public water supplies are targeted.
  • Blog Notizie reprises two separate stories about the recent vote to oust NDP party leader Thomas Mulcair, the first here and the second here, each reproducing an excerpt from an earlier Reuters article paraphrasing political science professor Guy Lachapelle. The same passage appears also in an article in Financial Spots.
  • Canadian Art magazine's weekly roundup of art news includes the announcement of the Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Family Foundation presentation of the foundation's 2016 Fellowships in Contemporary Art. The fellowships, each worth $60,500, were awarded to recent Concordia master's graduate Yannick Desranleau and UQAM alumnus Guillaume Adjutor Provost. The Fellowships are also announced in a brief in Qui Fait Quoi.
  • Electronic Products and Technology reprises an earlier release listing Concordia among the participants at next month's Montreal Manufacturing Technology Show. Concordia is scheduled to make a presentation on technical education.
