University affairs

Various issues concerning Concordia University are often reported on by news outlets. Here is the most recent coverage pertaining to the institution:

  • The Globe and Mail, reporting on the rejection by the board of governors of McGill University of a petition to rid McGill of its oil investments, mistakenly includes Concordia in a list of universities that have rejected the divestment option. Concordia, in fact, became the first university in the country, in December 2014, to enforce a policy of oil divestment when it announced a five-million dollar divestment fund within the university's global endowment. The Globe and Mail article is reprised by 24News.ca. A correction has been requested.
  • The Montreal Gazette, also reporting on the rejection at McGill of an oil divestment initiative, notes the Concordia divestment fund.
  • Concordia's oil divestment fund is mentioned also in an article in the Université de Montréal student paperQuartier Libre examining efforts by Université de Montréal to strike a balance in its investment portfolio between sustainability and profitability.
