Expert commentators
Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:
- Isabelle Dostaler, professor of management in the John Molson School of Business, appeared on the Sunday, February 21 edition of Radio-Canada's Tout le monde en parle to discuss the latest developments involving Bombardier, with thousands of Bombardier layoffs announced last week, even as the company announced a major Air Canada deal for its C-Series jet. Watch the Dostaler segment, in which she appears alongside journalist Pierre-Yves McSween. Dostaler is also quoted in an article in La Presse +, reprised fromLaPresse.ca, and in an article on Radio-Canada.ca about the Air Canada deal for the C-Series. The Radio-Canada piece is reprised on Sympatico.ca.
- Susan Cahill, assistant professor in the School of Canadian Irish Studies, writes in The Irish Times about her abortion experience. She recounted the story at the recent Theatre of Change Symposium in Dublin. Cahill's School of Canadian Irish Studies colleague, assistant professor Emer O'Toole, who also spoke at the symposium, is pictured alongside Cahill.
- In a separate opinion piece in The Guardian, O'Toole, mentioned above, is critical of Pope Francis over his recent pronouncements on abortion and the Zika epidemic and accusing the pope of obscuring Catholicism’s perceived homophobia and misogyny.
- Cambridge Times reprises an earlier article quoting Kyle Matthews, senior deputy director of the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS) at Concordia, on renewed calls for a no-fly zone over Syria to protect civilians. Matthews says the call for a no-fly zone comes about four years too late.
- The Globe and Mail presents a preview of "Connecting Your Tech Future: A Conversation About What’s Next", part of Concordia University’s 2016 Thinking Out Loud conversation series, held in partnership with The Globe and Mail. "Connecting Your Tech Future", taking place Tuesday, March 1 at 6:30 pm, will feature Jeremy Clark, assistant professor in the Concordia Institute for Information Systems Engineering (CIISE), and writer Nora Young, host of CBC Radio One's Spark.
- The Montreal Gazette and the Gazette's e-edition, writing about the evolution of black activism in Montreal, references the 1969 disturbances at Sir George Williams University over the university's response to allegations of racist behaviour by a professor. The articles include quotes of Clarence Bayne, professor in the John Molson School of Business and the director of the Entrepreneurship Institute for the Development of Minority Communities (EIDMC).
