  • Coverage continues of a new Concordia study of the cognitive benefits to children of being bilingual as toddlers. A group of Concordia researchers found that bilingual toddlers had an advantage over their monolingual peers in their cognitive development, notably in cognitive flexibility and selective attention, which may make them better problem-solvers: the study's senior author, Diane Poulin-Dubois, a professor in the Department of Psychology, was interviewed for Radio Canada Vancouver's 'Midi express' radio program; the first author of the study, Cristina Crivello, a graduate student with Concordia’s Centre for Research in Human Development (CRDH) who undertook the research as part of her master’s thesis, was interviewed on Radio Canada Manitoba's  'Le 6 à 9'; articles describing the research appear in Radio Canada International (text and audio interview of Poulin-Dubois), Le Droit, AMEQ en ligne (behind a paywall), CanIndia News, The Hans India, Jagran Post, Prothom Alo, Eenadu India, Wonder Woman, Bio Space, News Gram. The results of the study were published in theJournal of Experimental Child Psychology.
