University affairs

Various issues concerning Concordia University are often reported on by news outlets. Here is the most recent coverage pertaining to the institution:

  • Concordia's safe disclosure, or 'whistleblowing' policy regarding academic and other misconduct, is mentioned in a Montreal Gazette piece about complaints from a union representing research assistants at McGill about that university's disclosure policy. The complainants say McGill's whistleblowing mechanism lacks transparency and accountability.
  • LaPresse.ca reports on the Quebec government's intention to allow universities to increase their international student fees by up to 25 percent. The hike would help off-set the latest round of government funding cuts to superior education. The article quotes critics who say the proposed fee hike would give anglophone universities Concordia and McGill an advantage over their francophone counterparts because of their ability to attract international students in greater numbers. It notes that Concordia and McGill, together, account for 40 percent of Quebec's current international student population.
