  • Yesterday, La Presse +and LaPresse.ca mentioned Concordia’s efforts to give a number of Syrian refugees a new start in Canada. Today, CBC.ca reports that Vice-President, Development and External Relations and Secretary-General Bram Freedman, interviewed yesterday afternoon on CBC Montreal radio's Homerun (no audio link available), confirms the creation of a new scholarship fund for Syrian refugees seeking a new start in Canada. After first announcing a program in October to offer tuition-free enrollment for two Syrian refugees, Concordia, working with its partner organization, the Syrian Kids' Foundation, now plans to expand the program to offer scholarships to at least five Syrian refugees. The renewed initiative follows on a personal pledge of $50,000 from Chancellor Jonathan Wener, who is pictured in the online article. The piece is picked up by Yahoo! News. Freedman was also interviewed by Global News Montreal regarding this initiative. The piece is scheduled to air later this month.

The release is picked up by Shaw Connect, Money News and Globe Advisor.
