The scholarly work of Concordia faculty and researchers informs and improves society on many issues that affect our daily lives. Visit the Research section to read news stories involving research at Concordia, or read the most recent items here:

  • A Newswise release announces a study co-authored by Peter Stoett, a professor in the Department of Political Science, and researchers in New York City and Washington D.C., titled “Climate Change and Health: Transcending Silos to Find Solutions.” The paper, published recently in Annals of Global Health, describes the health threats related to climate change.
  • AMEQ en ligne (behind a paywall) reprises the French version of a Concordia release about religion professor Richard Foltz' new book Iran in World History (Oxford University Press).
  • Le Soleil publishes an opinion piece about the Paris climate change conference (COP21) whose author quotes from Allocating a 2 °C Carbon Budget to Countries, a study co-authored by Damon Matthews, an associate professor in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment, and IRIS researcher Renaud Gignac. In  their study, Matthews and Gignac allocate carbon budgets to different countries.
  • Metro Parent Daily reports on a new study led by Lisa Kakinami, a researcher with the PERFORM Centre and an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, suggesting that parenting style is an important predictor of childhood obesity. The study was published in Preventive Medicine.
  • Aviation Today joins coverage of new research from Concordia that provides a mathematical formula to read algorithms used in programming flight management systems (or FMS). The forthcoming study, to be published by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, was led by Luis Rodrigues, an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and alumnus Jesus Villarroel (MASc). The research could give aerospace and aeronautics students unprecedented insight into the programming of an FMS.
  • CNW/Telbec posts the closing communique from Concordia, the Quartier de l'innovation and the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal for the fifth edition of the Montréal Summit on Innovation (SMI 2015). Concordia identified the theme for Monday's summit — Climate (of) Change: Cities, People and Prosperity, reinventing Montreal in the face of climate change— and staff and faculty from the Office of Research developed the programming. President Alan Shepard, who gave the opening address, is quoted.
