University affairs

Various issues concerning Concordia University are often reported on by news outlets. Here is the most recent coverage pertaining to the institution:

  • Several media write about Concordia's partnership with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMF) to develop an education program destined to be North America's largest museum-based educational and art therapy complex: The Montreal Gazette reports that the initiative stems, in part, from a recent two-million dollar donation by philanthropist Michel de la Chenelière and mentions that Concordia professors are helping in the development of eight new courses and public programs that will be offered through the Michel de La Chenelière International Atelier for Education and Art Therapy, at the MMF. Rebecca Duclos, dean of Concordia’s Faculty of Fine Arts, and Josée Leclerc, director of Concordia’s art therapy program, are quoted; dean Duclos is quoted also in Le Devoir, which reports that the partnership will allow Concordia to send professors and students from its art therapy program directly to the MMF. It mentions "Peace Trail", a planned course program that would see Kathleen Vaughan, an associate professor in the Department of Art Education, explore the MMF's collections from the perspective of justice and peace; the La Presse + report on the partnership also mentions the "Peace Trail" course, among other Concordia teaching initiatives.
  • La Presse + writes about recent innovations at three Quebec universities, including Concordia: it reports that the university has redesigned its Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (GDBA) and Graduate Certificate in Business Administration (GCBA) to respond more closely to the needs of undergraduate students from various other study programs and departments, notably with the addition of the Professional Business Skills course. MBA program director Sandra Betton is quoted.
  • Concordia's District 3 Innovation Centre is referenced in articles in the Montreal Gazette and Canoe.ca about custom-made wireless earphones marketed by Montreal-based startup Revols. The articles mention that the Revols earphone prototype was created in the District 3 workshops. District 3 executive director Xavier-Henri Hervé is quoted in the Gazette piece, which includes a video clip of Revols co-creator Daniel Blumer explaining how the earphone works.
  • The Montreal municipal political party Projet Montréal posts a release on CNW calling on the City of Montreal to be more proactive in supporting university-based business incubators, including Concordia's District 3.
