Expert commentators

Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:

  • Isabelle Dostaler, a management professor in the John Molson School of Business, was interviewed by RDI this morning regarding the Quebec government’s decision to invest $1-billion in Bombardier (no link available). Dostaler is scheduled to give several more interviews on the matter throughout the day. She will notably appear on CBC’s Radio Noon.
  • Associate professor in the Department of Political Science Graham Dodds was interviewed this morning on City Montreal's Breakfast Television about last evening's Republican Presidential debate. (No link available)
  • Ian Irvine, a professor in the Department of Economics and associate researcher as the Montreal Economic Institute (MEI) and MEI research director Youri Chassin co-author an opinion piece in the Montreal Gazette about electric car subsidies in Quebec. Irvine and Chassin question the provincial government's management of its Green Fund, particularly with respect to subsidies for the purchase of electric-powered vehicles  — subsidies the authors say are economically wasteful and inefficient.
  • Accountancy professor Michel Magnan is cited in a La Presse Plus article that examines the financial underpinnings of the Quebec education system in the context of the current labour dispute between the Quebec government and the province's teachers.
  • JuanCole.com posts a commentary by Richard Foltz, a professor in the Department of Religion and director of the Centre for Iranian Studies. Foltz writes about what he anticipates will be a major shift in Canadian foreign policy toward the Middle East as the Trudeau Liberals prepare to take over from the Harper Conservatives in Ottawa.
  • Political Science professor Guy Lachapelle tells Agence QMI that prime minister-designate Justin Trudeau has an interest in maintaining a strong local team in his Papineau riding as he takes on the responsibilities of Prime Minister. The article is picked up by Le Journal de Montréal and TVAnouvelles.ca.
  • Robert Soroka, an instructor at the Centre for Continuing Education, appeared this morning on CTV's Canada AM to discuss the decision by U.S. retailer REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.) to not open for "Black Friday", the day after U.S.Thanksgiving.
