Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:
- Biology professor James Grant is quoted in an Agence QMI story about expert opinions on the level of risk involved in the City of Montreal plan to pump a certain amount of waste water into the Saint-Lawrence river. Grant says there is no need to panic over the effluent, but that more ecologically-sound solutions must be found for the future. The story is picked up by Le Journal de Québec and TVAnouvelles.ca
- Frank Chalk, a professor in the Department of History and director of the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies, is featured in an article in University Affairs about the value of discussing genocide, racism, intolerance and other difficult topics in the classroom.
- The Montreal Gazette publishes an opinion piece by Bruce Hicks, lecturer in the Department of Political Science and a Visiting Fellow at York University, on the history of the oath in Canada. Hicks refers to the election campaign stir over the wearing of the Niqab during citizenship ceremonies and argues that the oath has often been used to disenfranchise people.
- In her latest aviation column for the Plein Vol webzine, management professor Isabelle Dostaler writes about the excessive-noise complaints of residents living near Montréal-Trudeau airport and about efforts to address their concerns.
