University affairs

Various issues concerning Concordia University are often reported on by news outlets. Here is the most recent coverage pertaining to the institution:

  • Reports have begun circulating about the new Concordia Stingers logo and uniforms, which all varsity teams will display at their upcoming opening games, starting with the Stingers football team, tomorrow at 7 p.m., when they take on the Université de Sherbrooke Vert et Or at Concordia Stadium: Montreal Gazette, the Gazette's e-edition, LaPresse.ca (President Alan Shepard pictured), Global Montreal (no link available), CBC Television Montreal (at the 21:15 mark) and AMEQ en ligne (behind a paywall). Other coverage is forthcoming. Concordia Recreation and Athletic Director Patrick Boivin is quoted or interviewed on-camera in certain of the reports.
  • Academica links to an earlier Radio-Canada text story reporting lower French international student enrolment at some universities in Quebec following the announcement that French students will no longer benefit from the same lower tuition as Quebecers. The report notes at least two exceptions: Concordia and McGill, where  the level of enrolment of French students appears stable, despite the tuition hike for that group of students.
  • Journal de Montréal publishes an article reporting a 5.3% drop in enrolment at UQAM this fall, compared with the same period last year, and says Concordia expects a slight rise in enrolment this year. The article states that UQAM rector Robert Proulx blames his university's lower enrolment on last spring's anti-austerity student protests. The article is reprised by Canoe.
  • The MIT campus publication The Tech, reporting that Delta Phi Epsilon is opening a new sorority at MIT, mentions that Delta Phi Epsilon currently has 106 active chapters, including one at Concordia.
