Students
Current students at Concordia do outstanding academic work and get involved in community projects that improve our quality of life. See what they've been up to:
- Former and current Concordia industrial engineering students are featured in an article in the Montreal Gazette and the Gazette's e-paper about their Capstone Engineering Design Project to improve airport contingency plans during winter storms. The students, working from a set of observations recorded at Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport during a severe winter storm in 2012, designed a model for contingency planning that yielded a 60 per cent drop in potential flight delays and cancellations. The article notes that the project won the students an honourable mention and an A+ assignment score. Five of the six students are pictured: Shereen Ali, Dana Fruchter, Chyntia Sari, Anita Sarkissian and Alexa Ramia. The sixth student was Qasim Rehman. Among those quoted in the article is Nadia Bhuiyan, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and the Capstone Course Co-ordinator. The Gazette article is reprised by My Informs.
- Applied Arts Mag publishes an article listing candidates for its 2015 Student Awards and mentions that Yoshino Aoki, a Concordia student, won a Student Award or her animation in 2014. The article includes a screen capture from one of Aoki's animated films.
- The Canadian Press posts a story it first ran last week about a new smartphone application developed by Concordia journalism student Matthew Heuman to help young voters sort out election-related information. The tool, designed to combat voter apathy, notably among younger Canadians, uses GPS technology to identify a given voter's riding district and to provide relevant riding information.
- In her latest contribution to the lifestyle blog NaNa Toulouse, communication student Emmanuelle Côté lists her five favourite new smartphone applications.
