Expert commentators
Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:
- Vincent Martin, professor in the Department of Biology, is quoted in an article in Chemical and Engineering News about research from the University of York (UK), where researchers have identified a protein that can be used to synthesize morphine. Martin, who was widely noted in the international media earlier this year for his work on the creation of genetically modified yeast that can be used to make opiate drugs, remarks that the University of York research, led by biologist Ian Graham, represents the final step in synthesizing morphine.
- Ottawa Life Magazine reprises an opinion piece co-authored by Kathleen O'Grady, research associate at the Simone de Beauvoir Institute, and University of Ottawa professor Colleen M. Flood. O'Grady and Flood write about a case to be heard by the B.C. Supreme Court involving illegal surcharging by private clinics. The piece originally appeared in the April 21 edition of The Globe and Mail.
