Expert commentators

Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:

  • Department of Journalism lecturer Alan Conter appeared on CBC News Now, Thursday evening, to discuss journalistic ethical behaviour in the wake of the firing of CBC host Evan Solomon in an apparent conflict of interest. Solomon was dismissed after it was reported that he had brokered art deals with people he interviewed. (No link available)
  • Lucian Turcescu, professor and chair in the Department of Theology, is quoted in an article in Prairie Messenger about a federal election guide published recently by the Canadian Council of Churches.
  • La Presse + publishes an opinion piece by Andre Gagné, associate professor in the departments of Religion and Theological Studies, about Bill 59 and the Quebec Government's plan to counter radicalization. In  the piece, written along the same lines as an earlier op-ed by Gagné in the Huffington Post Québec, the author takes the government to task for  being slow to act and for failing to identify religious fundamentalism as the core issue needing to be addressed.
  • LaPresse.ca reprises an earlier article from La Presse + quoting management professor Isabelle Dostaler about a proposal from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for its member-airlines to impose new restrictions on the size and weight of carry-on luggage.
  • Peter Jaskiewicz, associate professor in the Department of Management, is quoted in an article in Diario Financiero and Entorno Inteligente (both in Spanish) about a family member of Wal-Mart's founding Walton clan being named chairman of the international retail giant. The article notes that the new chairman, Greg Penner, is not a Walton, but married into the family.
