Jean-Philippe Warren

On the legacy of Jacques Parizeau
Posted on June 8, 2015

Jean-Philippe Warren, associate professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, is quoted in an article in The Toronto Star about the impact on Quebec society and on the Parti Quebecois of former Quebec Premier, the late Jacques Parizeau.

Warren tells the Star that Parizeau gave legitimacy to the PQ when it was largely viewed in its early years as β€œa party of dreamers and poets.”

β€œHe represented the voice of reason, this idea that nationalists could do it, and they knew what they were doing ... Parizeau confided once that he came to the notion that sovereignty was a good idea from a more brainy, dispassionate, rational approach,” Warren says.

The article is reprised by Our Windsor.
