Expert commentators

Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:

  • Isabelle Dostaler, Associate Professor of Marketing, appears in the media to comment the latest round of massive layoffs at Bombardier. Dostaler is seen on Radio Canada's main evening newscast, Le Téléjournal, where she first appears at the 2:30 mark. Dostaler also appears on a two-member panel of analysts interviewed on RDI 24/60 , where she is first seen at the two-minute mark. Additionally, Dostaler is quoted in the Financial Post.
  • Kyle Matthews, senior deputy director of the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS) and MIGS research intern Noah Schouela co-author an opinion piece in the National Post about Boko Haram islamists, terrorizing populations in Nigeria. The piece is critical of countries, including Canada, that are concentrating on fighting ISIL/ISIS in Iraq and Syria while virtually ignoring the violent activities of Boko Haram in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • The Montreal Gazette publishes an opinion piece about physical and mental exercise in old age, co-authored by Karen Li, professor in the Department of Psychology, Teresa Liu-Ambrose of Vancouver General Hospital and  Manuel Montero Odasso of Western University. The piece mentions the PERFORM Centre's second annual conference, being held today, as an example of how universities in Canada are acting as research hubs in the areas of aging and preventive health. A footnote to the piece mentions that Li is also director of Concordia's Laboratory for Adult Development and Cognitive Aging.
  • Marguerite Mendell, Professor and Vice-Principal in the School of Community and Public Affairs (SCPA) is signatory to an open letter in La Presse + defending the scientific basis for the Manifeste pour un élan global/Manifesto for a Global Movement. The letter calls on all concerned citizens to sign the manifesto, which urges the world to turn its back on fossil fuels.
