Expert commentators
Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:
- Psychology lecturer Theresa Bianco is quoted in a text story on cbc.ca about the FHRITP heckle phenomenon. FHRITP is a vulgarity that has been yelled at certain female journalists during live street-level news reports.
- The Montreal Gazette publishes an opinion piece rebutting an earlier piece in the Gazette by Theresa Bianco, senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology. In her op-ed in an earlier edition of the paper, Bianco argued that no dog breed, including pit bulls, should be branded as biters and that a dog's bad behaviour can be fixed through proper training. In the rebuttal piece, National Post columnist Barbara Kay takes the view that pit bulls are hardwired to attack and are the only type of dog for which the infliction of pain on animals and humans is its sole raison d’être. The Province reprises the Barbara Kay piece and provides a link to the original Theresa Bianco op-ed.
- ADN Kronos (in Italian) announces that Hashem Akbari, professor in the Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering, is guest speaker at today's close of a conference on smart building materials, in Abruzzo, Italy. Akbari's talk will focus on "cool cities in an overheating world".
