Expert commentators

Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:

  • A release from the news service of the Université de Montréal to announce an experts' roundtable on police shootings reprises an opinion piece originally published in Monday's edition of the Montreal Gazette. Co-written by Caroline Fitzpatrick, postdoctoral researcher at the PERFORM centre, and Carolyn Côté-Lussier, a postdoctoral fellow in the International Centre for Comparative Criminology at Université de Montréal, the opinion piece relates to the death of 41-year old Alain Magloire, a homeless man who was shot and killed by Montreal police in February, 2014 after he smashed a window near a downtown bus terminal. The authors call on experts conducting an inquiry into the shooting to consider the full range of factors that may come into play when police respond to crisis situations, notably those involving people with mental-health problems.
  • Le Café Pédagogique publishes a brief about an upcoming France-Quebec school event involving digital technology and mentions the participation of Alexandre Enkerli, part-time instructor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. The event, being held tomorrow, involves high school students in a trans-Atlantic round-table discussion of the place of digital technology in the classroom.
  • The National Post publishes an opinion piece about aboriginal political activist Ryan Bellerose and mentions that Bellerose was to have spoken on Monday at an event sponsored by Hillel Concordia, but that the event was cancelled for reasons that were not made clear.
