Job worries are increasing boomer suicide

A study published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine shows a troubling rise in suicides among middle-aged men and women, which seems to be related to job and financial stress. Among the 40-to-64 age group, the study found that suicides in the U.S. between 2005 and 2010 were due to economic factors and saw the sharpest increase in the worst years of the recession.

Patti Ranahan, assistant professor in the Department of Applied Human Sciences, can address the startling suicide trends in this age group and speak more generally about why people choose suicide.
