The case against public prayer
The Supreme Court will hear the case brought by the Mouvement Laïc Québecois (MLQ) against public prayer. The Human Rights Commission had ruled the mayor of Saguenay must refrain from opening council meetings with a public prayer. That ruling was later overturned by the Court of Appeal. The Supreme Court ruling will clarify the rights of municipalities regarding religious matters. Concordia's Department of Religion chair, Donald Boisvert, can comment.
