Pope Francis’ moderate views

The Vatican synod on the family has endorsed Pope Francis’ more moderate views on gay unions, divorced people and unwed couples as well as the children of these less traditional unions. The assembly of bishops issued its report mid-way through its gathering. The position will not change Roman Catholic doctrine or teaching but will be subject to debate and revision over the next week. Donald Boisvert, former co-chair of the Gay Men's Issues in Religion Group of the American Academy of Religion, is available for commentary.
