Expert commentators

Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:

  • Le Devoir publishes an article about the 1916 Sykes-Picot accord, which defined the borders of the Middle East as it appears today and quotes Henri Habib, distinguished professor emeritus in the Department of Political Science.

  • Le Journal Métro publishes a story about the shooting of Michael Brown, a young African American teenager, who was killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. The article quotes Ted Rutland, professor in Geography, Planning and Environment who was present at one of the protests. Rutland is also interviewed on 98,5 FM and ICI Radio-Canada.

  • The Montreal Gazette features an article about “unschoolers,” parents who are choosing to not send their children to school and are leaving it up to children to teach themselves. The story quotes Sandra Martin-Chang, professor in the Department of Education, who is one of the few researchers to investigate the success of home-schooling.

  • The Irish Independent reprises an op-ed that was originally published in The Guardian by Emer O’Toole, professor of The School of Canadian Irish Studies, about the problem of becoming a Canadian citizen and swearing allegiance to the Queen of England.
