Landslides in the Laurentians

On Tuesday, April 15, two separate landslides occurred in the Laurentians. The first near Morin Heights destroyed two summer cottages and two more had to be evacuated. A smaller landslide sent mud and earth onto a road in nearby St-Adolphe-d’Howard. This week, it was the Laurentians community of Ste. Sophie. Judith Patterson, associate professor in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment, can discuss how the weather conditions can cause these types of disasters and what homeowners and potential home buyers should consider before investing in areas where landslides could occur.
