Removing gender from birth certificates

Several human rights complaints across Canada are prompting some provinces to rethink their rules about changing the gender identification on birth certificates – which includes reconsidering whether gender should be included at all. Yaël Glick, instructor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, can discuss the impact of removing the gender classification may have on transgender people. Kimberly Manning, professor in the Department of Political Science, studies gender creativity in children and why this may be an important step.
