Expert commentators
Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:
- Louis Patrick Leroux, professor in both the Department of English and the Département d’études française, appeared on CJAD (no link currently available) this morning to discuss the circus. Leroux will be discussing the academics of the circus with former Cirque du Soleil’s director of creation, Lyn Heward tomorrow as part of the second conversation in the Thinking out Loud conversation series. Seats are still available, register online. For more information on the series visit concordia.ca/CUtalks
- The Montreal Gazette publishes an article about a study released by the Université de Montréal that looked at the brains of 30 chronic smokers while looking at various smoking-related photographs – some positive and some graphic, anti-smoking pictures. The article mentions a 2011 study by Concordia researchers that showed higher taxes on cigarettes did not deter smokers.
- Mohammad Mannan, a professor at the Concordia Institute for Information Systems Engineering, gives his view on the value of anti-virus programs in an article on Sympatico’s The Loop about malware threats.
- Last week, New Scientist published an interview with Jim Pfaus, professor in the Department of Psychology, about a new medical implant that will help women who suffer from orgasmic dysfunction. The story was reprised by Reggi Online (translated from Italian using Google translate), In Donna (translated from Italian using Google translate) and Informazione (translated from Italian using Google translate)
- Classical guitarist, Patrick Kearney, who also teaches guitar in the Department of Music, will be performing at the University of Prince Edward Island on Saturday, March 15.
