Expert commentators
Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:
- The Montreal Gazette publishes an op-ed written by Paul Allen, professor in the Department of Theological Studies, about Bill 60 and freedom of religion.
- Robert Soroka, an instructor in the Department of Marketing, appeared on CTV News Montreal (appearance at 54 seconds) to discuss the widespread job cuts at Sears.
- University Affairs publishes a story about how the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) are considering adopting mandatory open-access policy for peer-reviewed journal articles that result from research they fund. The article pulls a quote by Geoffrey Little, collections coordinator in Concordia’s library, that originally appeared in an article published by The Montreal Gazette.
- The National Science Foundation issued a press release about three projects that were winners of the third Digging into Data Challenge, which included Alan Bale, professor in the Department of Classics, Modern Languages and Linguistics, and Maria Polinsky, a colleague from Harvard University, who were awarded a grant for their COULD Project. Although the press release does not mention it, another Concordia team from the Media History Research Centre (MHRC), in partnership with researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, won more than $200,000 in the competition: TMC Net.
- Jewel Perlin, a counsellor in Counselling and Development, appeared on Montreal’s Breakfast Television Thursday morning to discuss changing old habits.
