Posted on April 15, 2013
An article in The Montreal Gazette about aboriginal leaders asking for the sale of “native tobacco” to be regulated quotes Karl Hele, professor in the School of Community and Public Affairs. The article is reprised The Ottawa Citizen. Hele is also quoted in a separate article in The Montreal Gazette that discusses the 1794 Jay Treaty, which allows First Nations people to freely live, travel and trade on either side of the border and its relationship to Mohawk vendors bringing cigarettes into Canada from the United States. This article is also reprised by The Ottawa Citizen.
