Bilingual babies are smarter

Posted on January 17, 2013

Research conducted by Krista Byers-Heinlein, a professor in the Department of Psychology, about children growing up in a bilingual home is featured in TVA Nouvelles, Le Journal de Québec, Le Journal de Montréal, Medical Xpress, Eurasia Review, The Montreal Gazette, The Vancouver Sun, Yoopa.ca and redOrbit.com.  Byers-Heinlein's study found that language mixing can present short-term challenges for language acquisition but long-term benefits for a child's cognition. She was also interviewed by CBC Moncton and CBC Winnipeg (no links currently available) about her study.

Byers-Heinlein was interviewed by Carmel Kilkenny of Radio-Canada International (audio) about her work. She also appeared on Global Morning News on January 31.

The Globe and Mail mentions Byers-Heinlein’s study.
