Linking a Canadian pastime to climate change

Posted on January 15, 2013

Research conducted by Damon Matthews, a professor in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment, about the effects of climate change on outdoor ice rinks is mentioned in The Montreal Gazette. The article is reprised by The Edmonton Journal, La Presse, Brantford Expositor and The Ottawa Citizen.

The Star Phoenix  reports that the Rinkwatch project was inspired by Matthews' research. Rinkwatch asks people across Canada to input data on conditions at outdoor rinks to track the length of the outdoor skating season. On January 4 The New York Times mentioned Matthews study as well.

David Suzuki mentions Matthews study in The Huffington Post, The David Suzuki Foundation, Alaska Highway News, Straight Good News, The Brantford Expositor, The Welland Tribune, The Yorkton this Week and Timmins Press.

An editorial in The Montreal Gazette also discusses Matthews’s research.
