Using the brain to make music
Erin Gee, a student in the Faculty of Fine Arts, in combination with an Australian neuroscientist, has created a software and hardware system that creates music by using the brain’s response to emotion. This research may have a significant impact for those who have difficulty expressing emotions: Le Journal de Québec, Le Journal de Montréal, ECN, Radio-Canada Montréal, Live Science and Health Canal. Gee's research is also featured in The National Post, Macleans on Campus, The Vancouver Sun, Metro News, Winnipeg Free Press, Herald News, The Windsor Star, The Hamilton Spectator, Estevan Mercury, Global News Toronto, Métro, The Leader-Post and Canada.com
Gee was interviewed by the CBC Cinq a Six (audio clip) and she spoke to the CBC’s Ian Hamilton (no clip currently available). A video is also available on Youtube of Gee having a needle inserted that allows the computer program to ‘listen’ to her brain’s response to her emotional reactions.
