From compost to sustainable fuels
The complete genetic makeup of two heat-loving fungi, often found in compost, has been decoded by an international group of scientists, potentially paving the way to faster and greener development of biomass-based fuels, chemicals and other industrial materials. According to senior author Adrian Tsang, a professor in the Department of Biology and director of the Centre for Structural and Functional Genomics, the research team now faces the challenge: “To see how these organisms flourish at high temperatures and what makes them so efficient in breaking down plant materials.” Coverage of this story appears in Japan Herald (Japan), Toronto Telegraph, Enerzine.com, Good Environment, Science News, Renewable Energy World, Biofuels Journal, Biocompare, Science Blog, eBioNews, The Bioenergy Site, EcoSeed, Enerzine, OilPrice.com, NetIndis123. and Medcompare.
