Undergraduate students Franco Perugini and Melanie Chabot represented Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business at the 2013 Collegiate Ethics Case Competition at the Eller College of Management in Tucson, Arizona. “I am very proud of this team for the effort, dedication, level of knowledge and confidence they displayed,” says Mark Haber, head coach and advisor to the Competition Program.

The competition focused on how a small manufacturer can manage its wellness program in an environment with soaring health insurance premiums. Students were asked to provide recommendations as to whether or not the manufacturer should follow an incentive or burden type plan.

“The JMSB team presented a plan that was innovative,” says Tim Field, the coach who accompanied the team. “It focused on individual incentives, health and awareness with an emphasis on employee engagement.”

Their plan demonstrated how a small manufacturer can work with employees to create a healthier workforce while developing significant cost savings for the employer.   “This resonated well with judges,” adds Field. “I am very proud of the hard work, professionalism and composure of our team.”

The final results of the competition were:

  1. Simon Fraser University
  2. Queens University
  3. Boston College
  4. University of Texas (Austin)

The John Molson Case Competition Committee (JMCC) would like to thank Coach, Tim Field for guiding the team to a strong performance.

The JMCC also thanks Mark Haber, head coach and advisor to the Competition Program, for his boundless commitment.

The Committee would like to extend its deepest gratitude to Exclusive Partner PepsiCo Foods Canada, Premier Partner Pfizer Canada, Maxi, Power Corporation of Canada, and Database Sponsor PODIO for their support and encouragement of the case competition program.
