Insta360 camera support

The CDA EV depot has several Insta360 X5 video cameras. These compact automatic cameras shoot 360 degree video at various resolutions.

To edit the files from the camera you must use the Insta360 Reframe Premiere Pro plug-in or the Insta360 Studio software. The Premiere Pro plug-in will allow you to incorporate the 360 video files with other video file types on a regular 2D Premiere sequence. You can also put the files directly on to a Premiere VR timeline. Premiere will not recognize the files from the Insta360 camera unless the plug-in is installed. Other video editing programs (DaVinci Resolve, Avid Media Composer, Final Cut) will not recognize these files.

The Insta360 Reframe Premiere plug-in and the Insta360 Studio software are installed in all the CDA AV suites on EV5 and the FAR video suites on EV10. The Studio software is also installed on the laptops circulating from the EV depot.

Here are some tutorials on how to use the Premiere Pro plug-in and the Insta360 Studio software.

Here are the camera instructions.

Here are the download links to the Premiere plug-in and software if you wish to install them on your own computer. These files require a powerful computer to play back at full resolution but the camera does generate proxy (lower resolution) files automatically that are useable on most computers.

The download page also includes an optional phone app for remote control of the camera. Do not attempt to edit the videos with your phone. Lastly there is also a simple installer so you can see the files with VLC media player on a computer.
