INVITED SPEAKER SEMINAR - Modeling and Design Using Directed Graphs: Design and Manufacturing Applications

Dr. Eric Coatanéa, Professor, Tampere University, Finland

Dr. Eric Coatanéa, Professor, Tampere University, Finland

Date: Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 1:00 p.m.

Location: EV 3.309

Abstract

The presentation will introduce the DACM (Dimensional Analysis Conceptual Modeling) approach as a way to represent an engineering problem in the form of oriented colored graphs. The foundations of the approach will be defined and its links with the theory of dimensional analysis will be presented. Some concepts associated with the DACM approach and from the TRIZ method will also be used. Different fields of application of this method based on directed graphs will be presented through different examples.

Biography

Eric Coatanéa is a professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at the University of Tampere, Finland. His research focuses on design and manufacturing activities, and more specifically on the pre-design phases, systems engineering and computer support for modeling and simulation for design and manufacturing. Currently, much of his research work focuses on the development of modeling and control approaches applicable to robotic welding, WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing) metal printing, and hybrid manufacturing.
