1. UN concerned about the upcoming electoral process

  • President Kabila has not started dialogue regarding the electoral process due to strong oppositions.
  • UN Secretary General in the DRC, Mr. Sidikou says there is deterioration in the East, due to rebellion groups ADF and FDLR.
  • The crisis in Burundi has also created new risks of insecurity in South Kivu. 
2. Rise of insecurity in North Kivu

  • In the past two weeks, FARDC have conducted operations against local and foreign-armed groups.
  • There has been suspicious activity in Kirumba.
  • On January 6 -7 in Miriki, 18 people were killed by the FDLR. Investigations are ongoing to find the perpetrators of the massacre.

  • After the 18 deaths in Miriki, security and humanitarian aid has become precarious.
  • At least 900 families have been displaced.

Nord-Kivu: des miliciens fuient les attaques de l’armée à Lubero

  • After attacks launched by the FARDC, local and forigen armed groups are fleeing Lubero.
  • Rebels have left the regions of Miriki and Mbwavinywa.
  • The FARDC are stalking the armed groups in the part of Miriki, Buleusa
