1. 33 FRPI militia sent to Goma

  • 33 FRPI ex-militia were transferred Thursday to Goma, North Kivu to work in disarmament, demobilization and reintegration.
  •  Since July 2015 MONUSCO has already transferred 177 militiamen.
  • The pressure to transfer stems from the FARDC and logistical support from MONUSCO.
  • Joint operations are focused on tracking the Mai Mai militia in Mambasa.   
2. 700 Ituri Police officers to be trained by UNIPOL

  • The United Nations Police will train 700 Ituri police offices for 3 months, beginning November 10.
  • Officers will be trained for intervention, the restoration of law and the electoral process. 
3. New defense department securing national parks and reserves

  • The Minister of National Defence, Crispin Atama Thabe, announced Friday, the creation of a body responsible for securing national parks and nature reserves. 
4. 706 militiamen of Mai Mai have surrendered in South Kivu

  • 706 militiamen have voluntarily surrendered to UN forces, in South Kivu.
  • However, there has been resurgence of ethnic tensions between the Luba and pygmy communities in Kamubanga.
  • FARDC and PNC have been deployed in the area
5. MONUSCO Commander leaves after 2 years

  • The term of Force Commander of MONUSCO, Carlos Alberto Dos Santos Cruz, came to an end, after over 2 years.
