On November 20, the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance (CSLP) hosted Storytelling That Travels: Creating Impact Through Podcasting, an interactive Empowered Grad Workshop led by Sivan Black-Rotchin, ESL educator and host/producer of Talking TESL. The session welcomed graduate students and community members interested in using podcasting as a powerful medium for sharing ideas, research, and personal narratives.
Drawing from her experience producing a podcast for Concordia’s TESL Resource Centre, Black-Rotchin walked participants through key considerations for launching a podcast—from identifying purpose and audience to choosing formats that best match the content. She also outlined the core stages of planning and development, highlighting the resources and support available at Concordia for first-time podcasters.
The workshop blended practical guidance with collaborative creativity: attendees brainstormed concepts, discussed challenges, and refined early ideas in a supportive environment. Throughout the session, Black-Rotchin emphasized podcasting’s unique ability to build connection, amplify diverse voices, and create accessible, community-driven forms of storytelling.
Organized by CSLP Student Affiliates Ryuichi Suzuki and Britney Vu, the workshop offered an engaging and approachable entry point for anyone curious about turning their stories—or their research—into audio that resonates.
