The Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance (CSLP) is pleased to welcome Dr. Dewey G. Cornell for a public talk entitled "A Proportional Response to Threats of Violence by Elementary and Secondary School Students" on Wednesday, May 29 at 4:00 p.m. (EST).
This hybrid event will be held in person at the CSLP (1211 St. Mathieu St., room 2.221) and online via Zoom. With over 200 participants already registered, we invite you to register here to join the conversation.
In this talk, Professor Cornell, a leading expert in school safety and threat assessment, will discuss the use of exclusionary disciplinary measures in response to student threats — and the educational risks of over-relying on them. Drawing on research from over 4,000 schools, he will introduce a widely adopted protocol that helps educators distinguish between serious and non-serious threats, enabling a more proportional and supportive response that keeps students engaged in their learning environment.
