The CSLP will be hosting a talk by Meira Levinson from the University of Harvard, titled “Why We Need a Field of Educational Ethics”, on November 15, 4:00 PM. The talk will be hosted by our very own CSLP co-director, David Waddington.
Dr. Levinson will discuss how a field of educational ethics is essential in order to navigate the ethical dilemmas faced daily by educators, administrators, and policy makers. Dr. Levinson will explore these various dilemmas in detail and consider how this field can provide theoretical and practical tools to address the core values and decision making at the heart of education.
Her presentation aims to contribute towards the goal of establishing a field of educational ethics, modeled partially after bioethics, as the ethical challenges within education are vast and how we address them has major implications for our society.
Meira Levinson is the Juliana W. and William Foss Thompson Professor of Education and Society at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Her work covers a broad intersection of topics in civic education, youth empowerment, racial justice, and educational ethics. Levinsons authored many books, including Democratic Discord in Schools: Cases and Commentaries in Educational Ethics (2019, with Jacob Fay), Dilemmas of Educational Ethics: Cases and Commentaries (2016, with Jacob Fay), Making Civics Count (2012, with David Campbell and Frederick Hess), and No Citizen Left Behind (2012).

Le CEAP présente une conférence de Meira Levinson de l'Université de Harvard, intitulée « Why We Need a Field of Educational Ethics », le 15 novembre à 16:00 h. La conférence sera animée par notre co-directeur du CEAP, David Waddington.
Dre Levinson discutera pourquoi un domaine d’éthique en éducation est nécessaire pour naviguer les dilemmes éthiques auxquels font face les éducateurs, les administrateurs et les décideurs politiques. Dre Levinson élabora la complexité de ces dilemmes et examinera comment ce domaine peut créer les outils théoriques et pratiques pour adresser les enjeux et les valeurs de l'éducation.
Dre Levinson souhaite contribuer à la création d'un domaine de l'éthique en éducation, modelé en partie sur la bioéthique, puisque les défis éthiques de l'éducation sont vastes et comment nous les affrontons a des implications profondes pour notre société.
Meira Levinson est professeure d’éducation et société Juliana W. et William Foss Thompson à l'école supérieure de Harvard. Son travail couvre divers sujets en éducation civique, l'autonomisation auprès des jeunes, la justice raciale et l'éthique de l'éducation.
