Led by Dr. Wilson Chacko Jacob, sixteen students from History, Religion, CMLL, Anthropology, Fine Arts, and Finance participated this summer in the first ever Concordia field school in Cairo. Students arrived on May 31st and departed June 16th. In between they were immersed in the history, culture, and politics of this megacity and its surroundings.

Hosted by the American University in Cairo, they had the privilege of hearing from local experts and enjoying the state-of-the-art facilities on its beautiful campus, including an Olympic-sized swimming pool! Tours of the city and beyond were incorporated into the lessons about the present urban sprawl and the layers and layers of the city’s history since antiquity. Based on student feedback, the 2026 Cairo Field School was a resounding success--and a fun way to earn three credits!
