Call for working group proposals 2015-2016

The Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture, whose mission includes promoting interdisciplinary research and scholarship across the Faculties of Arts and Science and Fine Arts, is pleased to accept proposals for Interdisciplinary Working Groups for the 2015-2016 academic year. The deadline for proposals is January 15, 2015.

CISSC Working Groups range in purpose from a simple reading group to the development of a collaborative research team. Working Groups consist of faculty members from more than one department who meet at least five times a year to discuss readings, to present work in progress in areas of study or research that relate to the humanities, social sciences, or fine arts and/or to host an invited speaker. In order to promote exchange and the development of new research networks, meetings are scheduled in advance, publicized on the CISSC website, and open to faculty and graduate students.

The successful application will consist of a letter describing

  • the rationale for the group’s interdisciplinary character
  • the issues in scholarship, research, or creation that the group will address
  • its proposed activities
  • a budget

The letter will be signed by at least three Concordia faculty members from more than one academic department who have agreed to participate.

Working groups can apply for up to $1,500 a year and can be renewed, with funds awarded based on activities proposed. The involvement of graduate students, especially PhD Humanities studies, is desirable. PhD Humanities students’ profiles are posted on the Humanities website.

Proposals should be sent to the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture, S-LB 689. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Marcie Frank
