Let’s demystify journal publishing: A strategies workshop for graduate students (GradProSkills workshop)

Does publishing your research in a suitable journal seem impossible or mysterious? Are you at a loss for how to develop a knowledge mobilization plan that includes publishing strategies?
This hands-on in-person workshop seeks to demystify journal publishing and equip graduate students with strategies that go beyond the basics of avoiding predatory journals and conferences. Participants gain a basic understanding of several themes during the session’s overview: 

1. knowledge mobilization strategies and open access, 2) evaluating potential journals, 
2. assessing author rights language in publishing agreements, 
3. identifying what journal editors are likely to look for in submitted manuscripts. The group will vote on one of these themes to focus our guided practice time. There will be time for an independent activity (i.e. evaluating potential journals), followed by discussion, allowing participants to walk away with next steps, resources, and follow-up support for their publishing journeys.
