When you’re concerned a student is showing signs of distress or concerning behaviours, knowing what to do next can be difficult. This drop-in session is designed to help you determine how to respond thoughtfully and appropriately, within your role and expertise.

You can expect to learn:

  • How to recognize signs of distress and concerning behaviours
  • Ways to offer support with empathy while maintaining professional boundaries
  • How to take a student-centered approach while upholding privacy and confidentiality

You will also learn how to help students connect with the right support on campus and in the community. The session includes an overview of university policies, procedures and resources to help as you navigate these situations.

Facilitators

  • Elana Bloom, Senior Director of Health and Wellness
  • Aisha Topsakal, Director and Senior Advisor, Office of Rights and Responsibilities

The facilitators encourage you to bring scenarios for practical guidance. You may come or go at any time during the session. Questions are welcome.
