Are you interested in intersex joy? What might intersex joy look like at a time of increased fascism? Would you like to think about intersex joy by making art?
This project led by Dr. Casey Burkholder (Concordia University) and Dr. Celeste E. Orr (UNB), welcomes participants who are intersex or allies over the age of 18 to join the first phase of our Intersex Joy research project. All project participants, both distance-based and in-person in Montreal will be given a prompt to engage in art making.
The goal of the project is to work within a community of intersex folks and allies on a project committed to foregrounding intersex joy, developing intersex solidarity building and community art making, exhibition, and archiving. The artwork we co-create will be archived on a dedicated project website if participants so choose!
How can you participate? Join us in person or online by registering for the Zoom Meeting or watching live on YouTube.
Dr. Casey Burkholder's (Tier II Canada Research Chair in Social Justice in Youth and Child Studies) JOYLab partners with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities—including youth, families, educators, and allies—to create art and media that challenge rising anti-queer and anti-trans policies in Canada.
Using accessible, community-driven research methods, the JOYLab promotes social change through joyful, inclusive storytelling and collective resistance both in and beyond schools
