Beyond the Label: An Introduction to 2SLGBTQIA+ Identities

Creating a campus where everyone can fully participate begins with good intentions, but real transformation takes understanding the identities, language, and realities that shape how people move through shared spaces. This interactive workshop invites university students to move beyond the label and explore the many identities gathered under the 2SLGBTQIA+ umbrella, as lived experiences that show up in classrooms, intake forms, washrooms, and social life.

Drawing on scenarios and current research, we'll unpack the building blocks of identity, look at how barriers appear in subtle and systemic ways and how they affect students across disciplines and identities.

Through discussion, reflection, and collaborative activities, you'll gain practical tools to recognize those barriers, navigate pronouns and inclusive language with confidence, and respond when things go wrong. Whether you're involved in student leadership, organizing events, or simply navigating campus life, this session will challenge you to think critically about who feels invited, who feels valued, and what it takes to move from simply being allowed in toward affirmation
