Faculty interest group: Alternative assessment and pedagogy

Building on the conversations initiated in its first year, this second year of the Faculty Interest Group seeks to deepen the Community of Practice by moving beyond the exchange of ideas toward the co-construction of assessment practices, pedagogical resources, and scholarly knowledge. Year 2 will also widen the inquiry. Alternative assessment will be approached not simply as a search for new techniques, but as an opportunity to reconsider what assessment is for, what counts as knowledge, whose knowledge and ways of knowing are recognized, who participates in defining quality, and what forms of learning remain meaningful in a rapidly changing higher-education landscape. The Community of Practice will therefore place participatory assessment in dialogue with ungrading, assessment in the age of GenAI, decolonization, epistemic plurality, multilingualism and linguistic justice, accessibility and learner diversity, care and contemplative practices, and sustainable assessment.

Audience: Faculty, graduate students with teaching roles, staff who design or implement assessments
