Practical strategies on decolonizing curriculum and pedagogy

The aim of this workshop is to introduce faculty to the process of examining and unpacking their own course outlines and explore approaches on ways to decolonize and Indigenize their curriculum and pedagogical practices. This workshop will provide concrete examples of course outlines that have gone through the process of decolonizing (unpacking) and re-aligning their course syllabi in ways that respectfully integrate Indigenous theories and pedagogical practices across academic disciplines. Examples of building and promoting a supportive shared learning community for faculty will also be explored.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Describe how Indigenous decolonization is relevant at the institution.
• Increase their knowledge of Indigenous peoples’ perspectives in respect to Indigenous decolonization.
• Explain the significance of decolonizing curriculum and pedagogy.
